เช่นเดียวกับ IELTS Writing Task II ปัญหาการเสียคะแนนใน IELTS Writing Task I ก็คือการตอบคำถามผิดรูปแบบความต้องการของโจทย์คำถาม ซึ่่งในส่วนนี้เรียกว่าคะแนน Task Achievement
ประเภทของโจทย์ IELTS Writing Task I มีอยู่ด้วยกัน 4 ประเภท ดังนี้
1.Line Graph – Describing change over time อธิบายการเปลี่ยนแปลงของข้อมูลตามช่วงเวลาต่างๆ
2.Pie Chart, Bar Graphs and Table – Comparing different and similar things อธิบายเปรียบเทียบอัตราส่วนของข้อมูลของสิ่งของอย่างเดียวกันหรือแตกต่างกัน
3.Maps – Change over time เปรียบเทียบและอธิบายการเปลี่ยนแปลงของสิ่งแวดล้อมตามช่วงเวลาที่เปลี่ยนไป
4.Process – Describing a process อธิบายขั้นตอนต่างๆของกระบวนการ
หลักการณ์ในการตอบคำถามในพาร์ทนี้คือ ให้อธิบายเปรียบเทียบข้อมูลที่ได้รับมาอย่างละเอียดในเชิงวิเคราะห์ โดยไม่มีการให้ความคิดเห็นหรือความรู้สึกส่วนตัวเกี่ยวกับข้อมูลเหล่านั้น
3 ส่วนสำคัญที่ต้องทำ คือ
1.Introduction - Paraphrasing แต่งประโยคบทนำใหม่ (paraphrasing) โดยหลักการง่ายๆที่จะทำได้โดยปลอดภัยจากการทำให้ความหมายคลาดเคลื่อนและโดนตัดคะแนน ให้ใช้หลักการพื้นฐานในการ Paraphrase ที่ง่ายและได้คะแนนแน่นอน!!! ดังนี้
1.) เปลี่ยน Verb ในการนำเสนอข้อมูล โดยกลุ่มคำศัพท์ในการนำเสนอข้อมูลมีดังนี้ compare, present, illustrate, show, etc.
2.) เปลี่ยน Article จาก Singular Form เป็น Plural Form โดยการเติม s และตัด a an the ทิ้งในคำนามที่นับได้ หรือในทางกลับกัน ถ้าเจอคำนามนับได้ที่เป็นพหูพจน์ คือ เติม s อยู่ ก็ให้เปลี่ยนเป็น Singular Form โดยการตัด s ทิ้ง แล้วเติม a an the แทน หรือใช้ Pronoun แสดงจำนวนที่ตามด้วยคำนามเอกพจน์เสมอ เช่น each every หรือ any นำหน้าคำนามนั้นแทนก็ได้
3.) เปลี่ยน Vocab เปลี่ยนคำศัพท์โดยหา synonym ที่เป็น Academic English
4.) เปลี่ยนรูปประโยค Active เป็น Passive หรือเปลี่ยน Passive เป็น Active
2.Body paragraphs - Topics + Extended Sentences แต่งประโยคนำที่เป็นข้อมูลที่เด่นที่สุดจากโจทย์เพื่อแสดงข้อมูลเปรียบเทียบและทำการขยายความจากข้อมูลที่โจทย์ให้มา
3.Conclusion - เขียนบทสรุปการเปรียบเทียบข้อมูลทั้งหมดโดยไม่มีการแสดงความคิดเห็นส่วนตัว
ตัวอย่างประโยคอธิบาย Line Graph ใน Body paragraphs
1. Subject + (increased, decreased, etc.) + (dramatically, significantly, considerably, slightly etc.)
Ex. Travelers to China increased dramatically.
Ex. Visitors to Thailand decreased slightly.
2. There was + a + (dramatic, significant, substantial, etc.) + (increase, decrease, rise, fall, etc.)+ in + object.
Ex. There was a dramatic rise in foreign visitors in Thailand.
Ex. There was a significant fall in travelers in China.
3. Subject + (saw or experienced) + a + (dramatic, significant, substantial, slight, etc.) + (increase, decrease, rise, fall, etc.) + in + subject
Ex. Thailand saw a significant fall in the number of travelers.
Ex. Japan experienced a slight decrease in the number of overseas students.
Marking Schemes
Task Achievement - Line Graphs, Pie Charts, Bar Graphs and Table, Maps, Process
Coherence and Cohesion - Sensible contents, Signposting words
Lexical Resource - Vocabulary
Grammatical Range and Accuracy - Tenses and verb forms
ควรใช้เวลาไม่เกิน 20 นาทีและเขียนไม่ต่ำกว่า 150 คำ
